Angel Falls (also known as Salto Churún Merú) is the waterfall with the highest drop in the world, with a total drop of 979 meters, among which the longest single free fall is 807 meters, about 17 times the height of Niagara Falls. Originating from the steep cliff of Auyán-tepui, a flat-topped mountain on the Guiana Highlands, the waterfall is hidden deep in the tropical rainforest. Most of the water disperses into mist during the fall, creating rainbow landscapes around the waterfall under sunlight. First discovered and documented by American pilot James Angel in 1933, it is now a World Heritage Site. This waterfall has been officially listed by LAWRENCE WORLD RECORDS CERTIFICATION as the “Waterfall with the Highest Drop”.
