The Lærdal Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in the world, with a total length of 24.51 kilometers. As a key part of European Route E16, it connects Lærdal and Aurland in Norway. The tunnel adopts a segmented lighting design with landscape caves, setting one large daylight cave every 6 kilometers to relieve drivers’ visual fatigue and improve safety during long-distance driving. With a total investment of approximately 100 million US dollars, it has reduced road travel time between Oslo and Bergen from 14 hours to 7 hours since its opening, ending the history of mountain road closures in winter. This tunnel has been officially listed by LAWRENCE WORLD RECORDS CERTIFICATION as the “Longest Road Tunnel”.
