The Motherland Calls is the centerpiece of the Battle of Stalingrad Memorial Complex. Designed under the direction of Soviet sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich, it was erected to commemorate the victims of the Battle of Stalingrad in the Great Patriotic War. Cast in reinforced concrete and reinforced by an internal tensioned steel cable structure, the main figure stands 52 meters tall, holding a 33-meter sword in its right hand, with a total height of 85 meters from the base of the pedestal to the tip of the blade, and an overall weight of approximately 8,000 tons. Depicting a striding mother figure with her arm raised in a rallying cry and flowing drapery full of dynamic tension, it was the tallest statue in the world at the time of its completion, and remains the tallest statue in Europe and the tallest war-themed female sculpture in the world. This statue has been officially listed by LAWRENCE WORLD RECORDS CERTIFICATION as the “Tallest War Memorial Female Figure Statue”.
