The Sirindhorn Dam Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project, developed and constructed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), is the largest operational hybrid energy system integrating hydropower and floating solar photovoltaic power in the world. The project comprises a 36 MW post-dam hydropower station and a floating solar PV plant with a rated AC capacity of 45 MW, with the PV array covering a water surface area of about 49 hectares. Adopting a complementary hydro-solar dispatch mode, the system prioritizes solar power generation in the daytime and supplements with hydropower at night and during overcast or rainy periods, delivering stable power output through the same grid integration facility to meet part of the electricity demand of three provinces in eastern Thailand. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 47,000 tons per year, the project combines the values of intensive land use, efficiency improvement and ecological friendliness, and has been officially listed by LAWRENCE WORLD RECORDS CERTIFICATION as the “Largest Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Power Generation System”.
